Internet Explorer 7 rocks!

Internet Explorer 7.0Today I upgraded Internet Explorer from version 6 to the latest version 7. The download requires genuine windows validation 3 times! Apart from that that 20MB download went smooth.

This review is based on my experience of using IE for just one hour! IE 7.0 simply rocks! The interface is sleek and the performance is unbelievable (for a microsoft product, that is  :-)) . Here are some of the interesting features of Internet Explorer 7.0,

1. Improved screen rendering. Now reading a webpage seems easier probably due to enhanced anti-aliasing.

2. Minimal, but effective UI - The UI is similar to Windows media player and is quite intuitive. All the frequently used features are easily accessible.

3. The tabbed browsing - This was probably the only reason I was using Firefox. IE 7.0 contains this feature and is better than Firefox when it comes to opening new tabs (new tab appears just near the old tab)!

IE 7.0 tabs

4. Reduced startup time - I have a 1GB, 1.8GHZ machine and IE 7.0 starts in a flash!

Another noticeable feature is the Live search which appears on the right of URL field. It is quite tempting to use it instead of Google, nice try Microsoft! :)

So overall, I am very much pleased with IE 7.0. If you are using IE 6.0, I recommend immediately upgrading it to IE 7.0 (If you have genuine windows  :-))

I have been using IE 7 for past 2-3 months and its been really gud using it. But still I’m more interested in browsing using Firefox, dont know why, may I have to start using IE7 more…. :-)
I have a feeling that websites open much faster in Firefox than IE 7….its just a feeling…. :-)

I am a web developer who has some experience in doing front end work in JS and CSS. So I must say that this comment is biased. No one in my position likes IE. It is a curse on our profession ;-)

Anyway, Firefox is the best. Opera is not so bad either. Please choose either of these browser. If you have to choose IE, well, atleast IE7 is much better than IE6

FireFox 2.0 JavaScript implementations tends to be lax with its garbage collections - where as IE tends to be better. Ofcourse, this has problems when you are doing heavy AJAXy stuff in IE.

However, as a developer platform, Firefox simply blows IE away. As any developer who has used FireBug will tell you, when your XHR request doesn’t work in IE but does fine in FireFox, it feels like “God, why me?”. Again, I like the vast array of plugins in FF (Foxmarks, FireFTP, IETab, even the developer toolbar in FF is spectacular - the list just goes on…)

I was actually pleased to see that Necrosoft did something decent for once. However, it is still hard for me to comprehend how IE needs 20 MB download, when in Opera I get browser, e-mail client, RSS-reader, IRC-chat, download and torrent manager, and many other neat features in 6 or even 4 MB download. ;)
